Honey Bourbon Chicken Wings

These chicken wings are incredibly easy to make, there is a minimum amount of ingredients yet they pack a huge punch of flavour. Bonus is that you won’t be frying them so they’ll be lower in fat then your traditional bar wings.

Ingredients:

1 - 1 1/2 lbs of chicken wings

1 Small yellow onion, sliced

3 tbsp of honey

30 mls of bourbon/whisky

2 tsp kosher salt

1 Cup of water

Directions:

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, add chicken wings and salt. Massage salt into chicken wings thoroughly.

  2. Heat large skillet over high heat before adding salted chicken wings.

  3. Cook chicken wings on high heat until golden brown in colour.

  4. Flip chicken wings over and continue to cook over high heat until both become golden brown in colour.

  5. Remove chicken wings from heat and set aside taking care to keep chicken fat in skillet.

  6. Return skillet to medium heat and add onions. Cook over medium heat until onions become soft.

  7. Add whisky to deglaze the pan. Then add water and honey and stir until fully incorporated.

  8. Add chicken wings back into the skillet and continue to cook over medium heat, stirring consistently, until fully cooked (165 degrees Fahrenheit). *If the sauce becomes to thick before the chicken wings have fully cooked, add 1/4 cup of water to the skillet to prevent burning. Repeat this every time the sauce begins to over thicken until chicken has fully cooked.

  9. Once the chicken wings are fully cooked and have reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit, add 1/4 cup of water and let simmer until sauce thickens into a jam consistency.

  10. Remove from heat.

  11. Sprinkle a pinch of salt to taste over the chicken wings and serve.
